Project Description:
The Saddleback College Marque and Landscape Project is representative of HPI’s effort and commitment to small projects. The design process began with a visioning session, research to identify the architectural character and context of the campus (from branding, to materials, to forms), as well investigation and modeling of the topography and context of the three campus entries where the marquees will be sited. This effort was followed by the development, presentation and evolution of multiple design alternatives. The final design focuses on the readability of the marquee by vehicular traffic (its primary purpose) and creating an iconic statement reflective of the campus’s architectural context, its branding materials and its unique location at the foot of the Saddleback Mountains. The landscape solution focuses on ease of maintenance and extremely low water use while providing a strong “entry” character.
