Stanley Mosk Elementary School
Client:
Los Angeles Unified School District
Construction costs:
$26,500,000
Project Description:
Located on an existing middle school site in the city of Winnetka, VRES#10 is designed as a stand-alone K-5 school containing classroom, administration, library, food service, multipurpose and related support functions.
The geometry of the site results in a linear but efficient organization of the school while supporting clustering of classrooms on a classroom grade level basis.
The mass and scale of the building is intended to respect the scale of the single-family neighborhood fronting the site. Given the limited setback of the proposed building from the street, the design is intended to minimize and soften the two-story facade by eroding or stepping back the mass on the upper floor. The overall geometry of the building is relatively simple; the curved gesture accomplishes the stepping of the massing in a fluid manner and provides visual interest, character and counterpoint to an otherwise simple composition.
